Foodsteps Achieves Alignment with Coolfood Methodology
Foodsteps’ meals methodology has been reviewed and validated by Coolfood - an initiative of the World Resources Institute’s (WRI) - and an industry-leading standard for measuring and reducing food-related emissions.

This validation reinforces Foodsteps’ leadership in providing the most accurate, science-backed sustainability data for the food industry. It ensures that Foodsteps' clients can track, report, and reduce their food-related impact with even greater confidence, knowing their emissions calculations align fully with globally recognised standards.
Why Coolfood?
As a founding member of the Science-Based Targets Initiative and a host of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, WRI sets some of the most rigorous standards for emissions measurement and reduction.
Coolfood is WRI’s initiative for curbing food-related emissions, helping the industry take a target-measure-act approach to climate action.
A key part of this initiative is the Coolfood Pledge, which over 80 organisations have already joined. The Coolfood Pledge commits members to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the food they serve by 25% by 2030, relative to a 2015 baseline.
What does this mean for Foodsteps' clients?
For clients not yet in Coolfood, it’s now easier than ever to join the initiative and benefit from its resources.
By aligning with Coolfood’s methodology, Foodsteps is helping scale the production of healthier, more planet-conscious meals, supporting food businesses in their transition to lower-impact food systems.
Jenny Arthur, Head of Coolfood, highlights why this collaboration is a win for food businesses looking to reduce their impact:
"Foodsteps has taken a great step toward ensuring clients access the most robust data possible. And by encouraging its clients to join Coolfood, we’re able to offer them a suite of behavioral science strategies, technical expertise, and a great network to help them decarbonize their food offering. We look forward to working together to achieve change.”
The value of Coolfood membership
Organisations that commit to the Coolfood Pledge become part of a global movement and receive support to achieve ongoing reductions in food-related emissions.
